Q2 2024 Book

"Go As A River"

by Shelley Read

Set amid Colorado’s wild beauty, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story of a resilient young woman whose life is changed forever by one chance encounter. A tragic and uplifting novel of love and loss, family and survival—and hope.

Inspired by true events surrounding the destruction of the town of Iola in the 1960s, Go as a River is a story of deeply held love in the face of hardship and loss, but also of finding courage, resilience, friendship, and, finally, home—where least expected. This stunning debut explores what it means to lead your life as if it were a river—gathering and flowing, finding a way forward even when a river is dammed.

A Word from our Hosts

Hi all, I'm Zhuli! I'm thrilled about the community we have built through reading thus far and am eager to meet new folks who would like to join! In my free time, I enjoy riding my bike, going to concerts, and plotting my next travel adventure! This year I hope to bike the GAP trail, which goes from D.C. to Pittsburgh. 🚴‍♀️ I am also looking forward to all of the exciting books we will pick together for book club, so join us in our next meeting! 🙂

About Women in Sustainability

Women in Sustainability (WIS) is a social and environmental justice nonprofit on a mission to CARE for the planet through Community, Advocacy, Resources and Education. We aim to elevate women and marginalized voices that focus on environment and sustainability.

Women in Sustainability is committed to creating a community-driven organization where all voices matter and are included at the family table. Women and (women) minorities have been excluded from the climate conversation and climate leadership, yet they are the most impacted by the environmental crisis. We no longer have time to “do business as is” and it’s time to clearcutting the old to make way for a new regenerative approach to caring for the planet. It is time that we re-plant our systems with feminism & feminist climate leadership, which is wide open to people of any gender. Women in Sustainability is committed to changing the status quo so that our community members can lead the way in this shifting era and protect them from burnout.
